What ABSTRACT ART means to me

Abstract Art, for me, as an unconventional, original abstract oil artist, means freedom of expression; freedom of speech (albeit unspoken) - and, of course, freedom from conformity!
It's the absolute best to transform one’s inner thoughts and emotions, without the constraints of those “but what will they say?” and “what will they think?” thoughts running circles around in one’s head!
SO WHAT?! I think (and say…), in wondrous amazement! Who cares if what you put down doesn’t resonate with “what Josephine ‘Normal’ and Joe ‘Boring’ think? This is the most wonder-FULL world in which we’re living. The fact that we’re all different, and therefore express ourselves in our individual ways, is absolutely awesome!
Abstract means:
A - Awe-inspiring
B – Being an individual
S – Stunningly surreal
T – Thought-provoking
R - Resonating
A - Absoluteness
C - Connecting to the innermost feelings
T - True to yourself
What actually happens is that the ‘alpha’ side of the brain – (the ‘non-logical’ side) - takes over. This process is almost hypnotic - and very often, amazes even the abstract artist herself, when looking at the work, coming out of this dreamy state.
Are you a Goat or Sheep when it comes to Abstract Art?
Most ‘wanting-to-fit-in-with-the-Jones’s’ kinda people are frightened of breaking the ‘normal’, ‘conventional’ and ‘what-they-think-is-acceptable’ mould. Fortunately, all it takes is one leading, ‘brave’ individual to start the process; to think like a ‘goat’ - and not be a ‘sheep’. We certainly need more ‘goats’ out there, guys!
‘Goats’ are trendsetters themselves - imagine being the one who gets the first ‘Aurora’ Abstract Oil Painting in their group? How stunning to have something new to discuss and gloat about!
Goats are:
G - Great Individuals
O - Original in their thoughts
A - Adore abstract art immensely
T - Trendsetters
S - Social Butterflies
Have you ever been to a play or movie that is new on the circuit? It’s been given the thumbs-up by the critics, and ‘everybody-who’s-anybody’ says that it’s “supposed to be brilliant!” We all wait, longing in anticipation… and then comes the opening week. Most people feel pressurised to agree with the crits that the movie received; otherwise they don’t fit in with society! But what if they found it looong and boring? Or simply a waste of precious time and energy? What if they actually just didn’t understand what the movie is supposed to portray - if anything?
Most of these people, these ‘sheep’, are too scared to break the mould; to be the one who has his or her own opinion. Everybody’s waiting for someone ELSE to say something, right? Well, c’mon, I say, and become the goat that society needs so desperately!
The same goes for anything new on society’s circuits: be it drama, movies or ... wonderful original, modern, colourful, bright abstract art! The same goes for those gallery owners out there: Be the first to be brave, and take on the ‘unknown’. Be adventurous and give someone new a chance! How can someone be a renowned abstract artist, unless a brave ‘goat’ - one who listens to his or her gut feelings and instincts - is prepared to take on a chance - a whim, which could just result in providing society with the ‘next-best-thing-since-sliced-bread’!
So, next time you feel like browsing the wonderful world of abstract art, keep that mind open - and welcome some fantastic insights into your world!
